Thelma Ferguson, a teacher at the Lower Maruia School, had
been staying with the Gibson family. She had intended to return
home on the 16th of June, but decided to wait another day in
order to see Mr Gibson who was due home from the Murchison
Hospital where he had been for a month.

She was in the house when the earthquake struck and she died
along with Mrs Gibson and her son Leonard.
