William Chamley (together with Robert McAllister) was one of the two miners
w
ho were killed at Seddonville. The cause of his death was given as:
"suffocation caused by a fall of coal in the Glasgow Mine due to earthquake"
He had been born in England c1871 and had lived in New Zealand for 50 years.
He left a widow, Agnes Johnston Chamley, and four girls. He was buried in the
Mokihinui Cemetery where the inscription on his grave stone states:
"WILLIAM CHAMLEY
accidentally killed 17 June 1929"
